First the music which perfectly describes the Coloroso woman . Imagine Audrey Hepburn, Rekha, Jayabhaduri, Sharmila Tagore, Aparna Sen, Konkona Sensharma, Mini Mathur, Tisca Chopra, Arundhuti Roy, Shobha Dey and yourself !
Joydeep describes himself as a salesman and a proud one. He passed out of a Calcutta University Management course on Sales and Marketing and joined an FMCG multinational and started selling dantmanjan in the rural areas of UP, Bihar and Bengal before getting posted in the head office , in creating world class brands as a brand manager. After about 7 yrs of FMCG he moved into selling fuel (Petrol and Diesel) and then to Insurance and Banking and Telecom sectors. So he worked in various industries and mostly with the big brands but then also realized that he could never be a good subordinate and therefore moved out of service to do something on his own. And so Coloroso was born .
” The mystic charm of magical “Six Yards” had always left me spell bound and intrigued. So Coloroso is a passion which emerged out of the magnetic attraction towards these six yards of woven magic.” tells Joydeep
“Coloroso came up over a cup of coffee. I don’t even remember how and what was the discussion all about. It just came up and found it catchy and nice and different. There is no word called Coloroso in the dictionary. But my definition of Coloroso is “all about colors”
The brand is known for its good quality fabrics, unique designs and colors and great customer service . Coloroso’s creativity revolves around the ethnicity of Indian crafts. It explores the world of Banarasis, Chanderis and Linens.
Coloroso fuses modern designs with India’s vintage weaves. They usually keep the original aesthetics in mind while modernizing the process. They design and create an earthy range of eco friendly lifestyle sarees . All the product range which they have exhibited till now is completely hand-crafted by their craftsmen. Being hand-made, their sarees are essentially of Limited Edition with limited color mishmash. The collection of Coloroso sarees are handcrafted using the finest handpicked natural innate fiber. The fine variations in color or finish are inherent to handmade goods. An asymmetrical weave or print is not a shortcoming. Handloom by definition means uncertainty when it comes to consistency.
Peacocks in the Rain loves their Shikargh , Gulbadan Buta , Tussar Banarasi , Mughal Butas and Tanchoi Saris
“Each season has an inspiration which gets reflected on the designs. We this festive winter have been inspired much with Mughals and their way of life. We wanted to bring those times in our designs. Animals and birds and flowers and their paintings their lifestyle everything has been an inspiration. Their art and architecture also was a part of our designs. We conceptualize a design and then share it with the weavers and after a lot of deliberation, we alter and re-alter the whole thing and then close on a piece of art. The Art college students and the students of design schools are the ones who designs for us. But now we are also working with few stalwarts in the industry. We have 7 direct employees and about 50 indirect. ” Says Joydeep
In the new year Joydeep wants to concentrate more on distribution while focusing its presence in bigger cities in India.
” There have been a lot of memorable moments in Coloroso or otherwise. Cant single out any particular such moment. But once Vidya Balan dropped in store to buy sarees in Calcutta. I thought that was one of the memorable moments.” Signs of Joydeep
